Exercising

I have just done seven days in a row of exercise on my wife's elliptical. I'm going to keep this up for a while and see what happens. I have not done any good exercising since moving to my house in the middle of nowhere five years ago, since driving anywhere with either a tennis court or a martial arts place with convenient hours stopped being easy options.

Which kind do you have? Price range? Where'd you get it from?

I ask because I'd love to have my own but the specific one I love is about Too Expensive. ;)

It is an Octane Q45e, which is likely in the Too Expensive category. I bought it in the days when I had money falling out of my ears, and I'm pretty sure I paid between $3000-$3500 for it even while it was on a pretty good sale. We picked it because the thing looks and feels like it would survive a lot of abuse, though the most abusive thing it has been facing until this week was an ever-growing layer of dust.

I found a review of the Q45e: http://www.exerciseequipmentexpert.com/elliptical-trainers/octane-q45e-elliptical.html

Wow - it looks awesome.

when we are able to drop $1700 on a really good model (I don't want to drop $500 on a crappy one just to have one) I'll check out that website again to get good reviews. :)

(PS - this is Laura on Pete's computer!)

Good Luck with the machine! Doing something physical is always fun!

I went the opposite route. Body-weight and dumbbells/kettlebells at high intensity (heart rate 140-172 for 45 minutes) That worked for me. I like seeing the progression, and it has good after effects.

The only problem is I had to have a few work-outs because sometimes I am just too tired to do one of the bits. Though today I did it outside in -5 C ( 23F) weather and it felt pretty good.

I'd actually prefer doing some cardio-strength exercises over an elliptical, but I don't want to buy a home gym while knowing nothing about them and having no idea if I'd end up using it in the long run. Not to mention that I'm practically broke right now, too.
